If you were Neil Armstrong stepping out onto the moon for the first time today, what would you have

Moon lander, Chronicle Digital Storytelling

With the 50th Anniversary of the moon landing this weekend on the 20th July 2019, it’s a great excuse to enjoy sharing some family memories.

An historic moment like the moon landing is etched in the collective conscious of people who were alive at the time – everyone seems to remember something about it. So why not take the chance to ask a few questions of friends and family about this amazing time? And while you’re doing it, why not take the chance to record the conversation?

Beyond asking the usual ‘where were you and what do you remember’ question, try to explore a bit deeper. How did they feel about it? What do they remember of the build up to it? What was happening in their life and community at the time? How do they feel about it now? What do they think about the conspiracy theories? What would they say if they were Neil Armstrong stepping onto the moon today? Maybe you could explore more broadly about their life in the 60’s and 70’s?

At the simplest level, it’s easy to use your smartphone to record some audio. Depending on your phone, you may already have a voice recording app, but there are plenty available to download if not. If you need some help or tips, please let us know and we will try to answer any questions.

If you come up with some good questions or answers, please let us know as we’d love to share with others!
